St. Joseph boys win Wirt Co. tournament

ELIZABETH, W.Va. -- Huntington St. Joe came home Saturday night with a boys basketball tournament championship.

St. Joe defeated Roane County, 73-56, in the finals of the Wirt County Holiday Tournament.

Payne Meadows of the Irish (7-0) made five 3-point shots in the first half and finished with 25 points. Other players in double figures were Keith Clemons (16), Brian Conaty (13) and Iain Clarke (11).

Meadows and Clemons made the all-tournament team.

Roane County (4-2) was led by Jacob Neal's 21 points.

St. Joe is at home Monday to take on South Point at 7:30 p.m.

LOGAN 63, CABELL MIDLAND 48: The Wildcats (2-2) held the Knights (1-3) to just four points in the second quarter.

Double-figure scorers for Logan were Zach Miller (15), Kareem Clancy (10) and Braxton Goff (10).

Coy Pettit's 15 points led Cabell Midland.

LINCOLN CO. 46, DODDRIDGE CO. 45: Andrew Davis sank a half-court shot just before the final buzzer sounded to lift the Panthers to victory in the Ritchie County Holiday Tournament. Schylar Kelly led Lincoln County with 17 points. The Panthers return to action Jan. 2 at home against Sissonville.

FAIRLAND 65, LOGAN (OHIO) 57: Terra Stapleton recorded a double-double for the Dragons with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Fairland (6-1) also had Chandler Fulks contributing 13 points.

The Chieftans fell to 5-4.

Fairland plays a 7:30 p.m. Monday home game against Jackson.
