Cabell Midland runner-up in Class AAA golf

WHEELING -- Runner-up Cabell Midland finished five strokes off the Class AAA winning pace of Wheeling Park in Wednesday's final round of the West Virginia high school golf championship.

Wheeling Park had a two-day score of 472 on the Jones Course at Oglebay Resort. Cabell Midland finished second at 477 and Shady Spring was third at 478. Huntington High seventh at 509.

Cole Hand from Wheeling Park was the individual winner at 76-73 -- 149.

Cabell Midland had Mark Wilcox in fifth place at 81-74 -- 155. Other players for the Knights included Zack Chapman (82-78 -- 160) and Seth Kinker (81-81 -- 162). Hutton Light and Luke Smith played in just one round each and shot 85 and 89 respectively.

Thomas Frazier from Huntington High placed ninth at 84-75 -- 159. The Highlanders also had Fisher Cross (90-84 -- 174, Nick Nolan (90-89 -- 179) and C.J. McCoy (99-86 -- 185).

Roane County won the Class AA title with a score of 458. Poca was second at 496.

Alston Spears of Roane County took the individual title (72-76 -- 148) followed by teammates Cole Moore (76-76 -- 152) and Cam Moore (80-78 -- 158).

Poca's Alex Hamrick was fifth at 83-76 -- 159.

Class A team champion Charleston Catholic shot 473 and runner-up Madonna came in at 483. Michael Rogers from Madonna shot 77-75 -- 152 to claim individual honors.
