Portsmouth rallies to beat South Point

August 23, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

PORTSMOUTH -- Doug Dillon's 3-yard touchdown gave South Point a 15-14 lead in the fourth quarter, but the comeback attempt fell short as Portsmouth rallied with two late touchdowns to defeat the Pointers 28-15 at Spartan Stadium.

Making his first start at quarterback, Portsmouth's Josh Myers led a strong Trojan offense. Through the air, Myers went 8-of-15 for 126 yards and an interception, but most of his damage came on the ground as he rushed for 66 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries.

Myers had a pair of short first-half touchdown runs to put the Trojans ahead 14-0 in the second quarter, but Jacob Seagraves ripped off a 68-yard run to cut the lead to 14-6 at the break.

After a safety made it 14-8 at the end of the third quarter, Dillon's run and Drew Lynd's subsequent kick put the Pointers ahead 15-14 just two minutes into the final period.

However, Myers reeled off a 25-yard run to put Portsmouth ahead and Ryan Jordan's 16-yard scamper ended the scoring on the evening.

South Point (0-1) will take on Wheelersburg in the Pointers' home opener next week. Wheelersburg defeated Ironton 23-22 on Friday night.
