Oct. 20, 2012 @ 12:25 AM

ONA -- Princeton had its best chance to score early, and didn't get it done.

That opened the gates for Class AAA top-rated Cabell Midland (9-0), which seized the opening Friday and rolled to a 42-7 victory over the Tigers (1-8) at Knights Stadium.

Princeton's defense stopped Cabell Midland's opening possession of the night on downs and the visitors missed an opportunity for an early lead with a botched snap on a field goal try.

Cabell Midland promptly drove for a score, the first of many.

David Gaydosz, who had 194 of Cabell Midland's 460 rushing yards, broke for a 26-yard gain and a penalty tacked on put the Knights at the Tigers' 28-yard line. Kasey Thomas took it in on a 20-yard touchdown run.

After the Knights stopped the Tigers on downs, Stephen Matthews ripped off a 57-yard touchdown run.

Kameron Stapleton's interception thwarted Princeton's next possession and sent the Knights to another score.

Cabell Midland stayed on the ground with Thomas taking snaps at quarterback and he capped a 61-yard march with an 8-yard TD run.

Matthews rushed for 99 yards while Thomas picked up 93.

Coy Pettit returned to play quarterback after a Princeton punt and engineered another scoring drive. Gaydosz took the honors on a 23-yard touchdown and Chris Heiner's fourth extra point was good for a 28-0 lead with about two minutes left before halftime.

Lowell Farley's 14-yard carry for a TD and Tanner Chapman's 16-yard TD reception from Thomas padded the advantage to 42-0 in the third period.

With Cabell Midland's second- team defense on the field, Princeton avoided being blanked with Devin Allen's 55-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter.

The Knights have a week off before finishing their regular season with a Nov. 2 home game against neighboring Hurricane.
