Spring Valley girls returning to state

SPRING VALLEY -- Spring Valley defeated Hurricane and Cabell Midland in regional matches Friday and is returning to the state volleyball tournament as the Class AAA, Region IV champion for the fourth consecutive year.

Cabell Midland also advances as the region runner-up.

The state tournament is Nov. 9-10 in the Charleston Civic Center. A blind draw for pairings will be conducted Sunday.

Spring Valley, the defending state champion, downed Hurricane, 3-0 (25-8, 25-7, 25-13). Cassidy Lemons had 16 points for the Timberwolves while Eden Garrett scored four for the Redskins.

Cabell Midland beat Winfield, 3-0, to set up a championship match against the host Timberwolves.

Spring Valley captured its fourth straight Region IV title with a 3-1 (25-22, 25-13, 19-25, 25-12) win over Cabell Midland.

Brittany Ritter and Sarah Kelley powered Spring Valley in the final match.

Ritter had 11 points, 14 kills and 12 defensive digs. Kelly scored 11 and made 20 digs. Lemons contributed 14 kills.

Cabell Midland had Jennifer Brumfield and Mackenzie Allen both scoring eight.
