Fairland beats Oak Hill in sectional

FAIRLAND -- Mackenzie Rucker went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Sarah Simms went 3-for-4 with a triple as Fairland advanced in sectional play with a 7-2 victory over Oak Hill in the Ohio Division III Southeast sectional.

Amber Bias had a shutout going into the seventh inning against the Oaks and allowed just one hit. Shelby Fuller added a pair of RBI and Kathleen Blatt went 2-for-2 for the Dragons (6-11), who visit Wheelersburg on Friday at 5 p.m..

POINT PLEASANT 5, RITCHIE COUNTY 0: Tessa Wyant threw a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters to lead Point Pleasant into the Class AA, Region 1 finals.

Alissa Darst had two RBI and Anna Sommer finished 2-for-3 for the Big Blacks (27-8).

Point Pleasant took control of the game in the second inning when it scored four runs.

The Big Blacks will take on Magnolia at Tyler Consolidated on Thursday for the right to go to the West Virginia State Tournament next week.
