Baines returning to form
It's the Tirrell Baines of old, almost. Baines was back in action Saturday night running, jumping and even 3-point shooting for the Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team one month after arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

Herd takes a C-USA break
HUNTINGTON -- A one-point victory would have been fine. But, the Marshall Thundering Herd didn't settle for just winning Saturday night in Cam Henderson Center. The Herd lowered the boom on East Carolina, 100-49, in a game that tied the Conference USA men's basketball record for the most lop-sided game between conference opponents.
MARIETTA, Ohio -- Marshall University women's track and field athletes won six events Friday at the Marietta Invitational indoor meet.
FG percentage: 25.8. 3PT percentage 14.3. FT percentage 42.9. Deadball rebounds: 2. Turnovers: 21. Steals: 9 (Mitchell, Dale 3, Harris 2, Walters 3). Blocked shots: 1 (Randall).
Whatever ailed Marshall during a five-game losing streak wasn't a disease that playing the Pirates couldn't heal.

Holliday says staff matches recruits
HUNTINGTON -- For more than a month, Doc Holliday worked within his wheelhouse.
HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss had more field goals than Marshall had points in the first half as the Golden Eagles jumped to a 30-point halftime lead and trounced the Thundering Herd 67-39 on Saturday evening at Reed Green Coliseum.

HUNTINGTON -- Coming off a disappointing loss at UCF, the Marshall University women's basketball team is looking to stay in the upper echelon of Conference USA in a 5 p.m., Saturday, game at Southern Miss.
Korn coming to Marshall
HUNTINGTON -- Willy Korn, a highly regarded quarterback from Clemson University, announced his intentions to enroll at Marshall University in May.
Team rebounds 1
ORLANDO, Fla. -- Orlando is supposed to be one of the most fun vacation spots in the United States, but for Marshall's women's basketball team on Thursday, it was neither fun nor a vacation.
HUNTINGTON -- Former Marshall University men's soccer midfielder John Daniele signed a pro contract with UC La Estrella of Los Santos Maimona, Spain, and will be on the team roster for the duration of the 2009-10 season.
