COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Marquette used a big advantage at the foul line to defeat Marshall, 67-46, in a Texas A&M Classic women's basketball game Friday in Reed Arena.

Marquette (2-1) made 12 of 18 foul shots. Marshall (2-2) went to the line only for only two attempts and missed them both.

"We only fouled them twelve times and they only shot eighteen free throws, but we fouled on scoring plays," said first-season Marshall head coach Matt Daniel.

Marquette was led by Katherine Plouffe with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Katie Young of the Golden Eagles also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Chukwuka Ezeigbo's second double-double performance of the season -- 10 points, 11 rebounds -- led Marshall. She also blocked two blocked shots and made two steals. Norrisha Victrum was also in double figures for the Thundering Herd with 10 points.

The Golden Eagles used their size to build a 51-36 advantage in rebounds.

"We were undersized in every position, except the center, by at least three inches," Daniel said. "Their system is experienced and ours isn't. We were out of position because we would help the helper and do different stuff.

"With that being said, it's just experience -- bottom line."

Marshall opened the game by making five of its first eight shots and was in an 11-11 tie. Marquette scored eight straight and took a 34-26 lead into halftime.

Victrum's 3-point field goal put Marshall within 38-33 early in the second half, but the Herd got no closer.

The Herd completes the tournament at noon, Sunday, against Southern, which played Texas A&M in the second game.
