MU women sign McCloud of Miami
HUNTINGTON -- Maikala McCloud of Miami, a Florida all-state player, signed with Marshall University women's basketball.
McCloud is a 5-foot-7 guard from American High School.
"She has the build and talent to be a great combo guard for us moving forward," Marshall head coach Matt Daniel said in a news release.
McCloud averaged 19.8 points, four rebounds and two steals per game as a high school senior. She was Florida's top 3-point shooter at 42 percent.
American High was a two-time state runner-up during her career.
"She has already committed to being here all summer to prepare herself to try and contribute in her first year," Daniel said.
"That is the type of commitment to our program that we are looking for as we continue to build a culture that our university and community can be proud of."
McCloud had a 3.2 grade point average in high school and was involved in drama club. She expects to major in biology at Marshall.
She is the niece of George McCloud, who played in the National Basketball Association from 1989-2002.
