Nov. 01, 2012 @ 10:26 PM

HUNTINGTON - Despite having five players sit out of the first exhibition of the year, Marshall got an easy 94-67 win over Bluefield College on Thursday night in front of 4,631 fans at Cam Henderson Center.

Elijah Pittman led the charge with 23 points and 13 rebounds in his first action with the Thundering Herd.

Dennis Tinnon and D.D. Scarver each added 18 points in the win while Chris Martin also had 14 points for Marshall.

Kearsten Marion led Bluefield with 18 points while Andrew Wilson added 16. Deonte Hallums was a perfect 5-of-5 from the field for 14 points and Byron Carpenter also had 12 in the loss for the Rams.

Marshall outrebounded Bluefield College 69-25. The Herd had more offensive rebounds (28) than the Rams had total rebounds.

The Herd did commit 15 turnovers while also going just 12-of-23 from the foul line.

The lopsided win came despite five Marshall basketball players sitting out the team's exhibition.

DeAndre Kane, Nigel Spikes, Devince Boykins, Kareem Canty and Robert Goff all sat out for various reasons.

Kane and Spikes were both a coach's decision while Boykins and Goff sat out due to injury.

Canty missed the contest while he continues to deal with an NCAA eligibility issue.
