MU roundup: Walker places 8th at C-USA championship
HOUSTON -- Marshall University women's track and field athlete Crystal Walker placed eighth in the long jump Saturday at the Conference USA championship meet.
Walker had a jump of 20-feet, 1.50 inches.
Amber Pierson of the Thundering Herd took eighth place with a jump of 19-2.50.
Kelley Mortakis scored another point for the Herd with an eighth-place finish Saturday night in the 3,000-meter steeplechase run. She had a time of 11:10.01.
Vanessa Jules continued her strong performance in the conference meet by qualifying for Sunday's finals in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.85 seconds.
Jules won the seven-event heptathlon on Friday with a school and conference record 5,807 points. She finished ahead of Xenia Rahn from Memphis (5,463) and Lucija Cvitanovic from SMU (5,371).
The meet concludes Sunday at the Rice University Track and Soccer Stadium.
