Marshall Hall of Fame to add nine

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University will induct nine members into its athletic Hall of Fame in 2013.

The Hall of Fame banquet is Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Don Morris Room of Memorial Student Center. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the Marshall Athletic Ticket Office in Cam Henderson Center, at HerdZone.com or by calling 304-696-4373 or 800-THE-HERD.

Hall of Fame inductees will be guests at the Marshall M Club tailgate at the southwest corner of Joan C. Edwards Stadium before the Sept. 7 football game against Gardner-Webb and will be introduced during a pregame ceremony.

Following is a look at the Hall of Fame inductees:

Casey Batey

Men's track and field (1999-2002)

All-American and All-Mid-American Conference in 2002. ... Ed Starling Award winner as the Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year at Marshall in 2002. ... Milton native and Cabell Midland High School graduate. ... MAC champion 2001 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. ... MAC champion 2002 1,500-meter run. ... Part of the school-record setting distance medley relay.

George Chaump

Football coach (1986-89)

Head coach of Marshall's first NCAA Division I-AA national runner-up team in 1987. ... Posted a 33-16-1 record in four seasons. ... Guided the 1988 team to a Southern Conference championship and No. 1 regular-season ranking. ... Chaump, 77, retired after the 2012 season at Central Dauphin East High School in Harrisburg, Pa. ... Native of Scranton, Pa.

Erin Compton

Women's track and field (2000-03)

Discus thrower was Marshall's first female All-American with an eighth-place finish at the 2003 NCAA meet. . ... Set school records that still stand in the discus (171-feet), hammer (181-11) and 20-pound indoor weight (59-1.25). ... Mid-American Conference discus champion in 2001 and 2003. ... Chris Crocker

All Mid-American Conference first team defensive back in 2001 and second team in 2002. ... Part of MAC championship teams in 1999, 2000 and 2002. ... Played on winning teams in the GMAC Bowl (1999), Motor City Bowl (2000), GMAC Bowl (2001) and GMAC Bowl (2002). ... Chesapeake, Va., native has played 11 seasons in the NFL, including 2012 with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Cecil Fletcher

Football (1984-87)

All-Southern Conference defensive end in 1986. ... Played on the 1987 NCAA Division I-AA national runner-up team. ... Set the school record with 17 quarterback sacks in 1986. Had 23 career sacks, which is fourth in Marshall history. ... Bloomington, Ohio, native and Thundering Herd co-captain was selected for the East-West Shrine Game in 1987.
