Marshall's Kambola plays in China with US all-star team

HUNTINGTON -- J.P. Kambola from the Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team had a double-double performance Tuesday for the Sports Reach USA all-star team in China on an 18-day cultural exchange tour.

Kambola, a 6-foot-9 junior, had 10 points and 14 rebounds in Sports Reach USA's 87-81 victory over Athletas Lithuania. He made five of 10 shots.

On Wednesday, he failed to score but had nine rebounds in a 75-75 tie with Lithuania.

Sports Reach USA is a sports ministry based in Campbellsville, Ky. The organization's mission statement is "Reaching and Teaching the World Through Sports."

Jacksonville State assistant coach Tom Schuberth is serving as head coach of the all-star team that also includes T.J. Price and George Fant from Western Kentucky; Josiah Moore from Tennessee Tech; Travis Smith from Mercer; Stacy Wilson from Murray State; D.J. Johnson from Kansas State; and Jordan Myers from Campbellsville.

Kambola appeared in 11 games for Marshall last season for an average of 3.5 minutes per contest. He scored eight points and had nine rebounds.
