Marshall drops C-USA doubleheader at UAB
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Marshall's Thundering Herd left 15 runners on base and didn't score Saturday while dropping a Conference USA softball doubleheader at UAB.
The Blazers (32-13, 18-2) won 1-0 and 2-0.
UAB shortstop Caitlin Attfield began the day with a single to left field and scored the only run of game one on a single by designated hitter Kristen McGrath.
Lannah Campbell of the Blazers pitched a seven-inning shutout with five strikeouts. Campbell allowed eight hits. Andi Williamson also threw a complete game for Marshall, allowing four hits and striking out two.
Marshall third baseman Jazmine Valle had three hits including a double.
UAB pitcher Leigh Streetman allowed just four hits in the second game and had seven strikeouts.
Outfielder Amy Dennis got a UAB rally going in the third inning with a single and advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Dennis took third on second baseman Heather Pearson's base hit and scored on a single by outfielder Whitney Fletcher.
Third baseman Kate Armstrong drove in UAB's second run with a single.
Williamson threw her second complete game in game two, allowing six hits and fanning four.
Marshall (29-19, 11-6) and UAB complete the weekend with a Sunday, 1 p.m., game.
