C-USA wraps up spring meetings
HUNTINGTON -- Conference USA concluded its spring meetings Wednesday and several recommendations were forwarded to the Board of Directors for approval.
Representatives from 16 member schools for 2013-14 attended the meetings in Destin, Fla.
Eight potential football bowl partners participated in the week's activities. Conference television partners attended to focus on current and future distribution through television and streaming.
A number of recommendations were adopted and will be forwarded to the Board of Directors during their June 10 meeting.
Recommended items included:
Having all 16 teams for men's and women's basketball participate in the C-USA Basketball Championship, making it a five-day format.
Increasing the field size of fall championships for volleyball to 12, women's soccer to 10 and men's soccer to seven.
Scheduling men's basketball games with travel partners and conference games played on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Scheduling women's basketball games on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Athletic directors, senior woman administrators, faculty athletics representatives and head coaches for football, men's basketball and women's basketball attended.
Key topics of discussion for the newly-aligned membership included NCAA national governance, scheduling, formatting, revenue distribution, video and television.
