Herd volleyball downs Wright State
CINCINNATI -- Marshall defeated Wright State, 3-2, in a Saturday match of the Cincinnati volleyball tournament at Fifth Third Bank Arena.
Kristin Marcum led the Thundering Herd (2-0) to a 20-25, 25-21, 25-19, 21-25, 15-10 victory.
"It was good to pull together," said Marshall coach Mitch Jacobs. "Wright State did a good job of shutting down a lot of things that we like to do."
Marcum recorded a double-double with 23 digs and 14 kills. Emily Sullivan had 20 kills. Elizabeth Fleming added 51 assists and 16 digs.
The Herd completes the tournament at noon today against the host Cincinnati Bearcats.
Men's soccer
DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Marshall is looking to bounce back today after a season-opening men's soccer defeat. Marshall takes on the host WIldcats at 1 p.m. today in the Davidson Invitational.
College of Charleston defeated Marshall on Friday, 2-0.
Women's soccer
EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Marshall blanked Mount St. Mary's, 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Waldron Family Stadium.
Freshman Katie Ball scored a pair of goals as the Thundering Herd improved to 2-0. Mount St. Mary's slipped to 0-2.
Junior Molly Snead scored her ninth career goal. Freshman Kaitlin Devine also scored.
Goalkeeper Liz Orton, a junior, made one save.
