Seton Hall will pose tall task for Herd women
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall women's basketball faces a tall task Monday in Cam Henderson Center.
Seton Hall, which plays Marshall in a 7 p.m. game at Cam Henderson Center, is a Big East Conference team with good size in its lineup. Forwards Nicole Emery and Kandice Green for the Pirates are both 6-foot-1 while forward Letita Curry is a 6-footer.
Ebonie Williams, a 5-8 guard, led Seton Hall in its opening game, a 63-49 win at Rider, with 18 points. Emery had 16 points and eight rebounds.
"Big East basketball is a physical brand of basketball," Marshall head coach Royce Chadwick said. "It's a power game. They are going to run the ball down the floor and try to jam it at the rim.
"We have to have a whole lot of folks make contributions."
Marshall dropped its opening game Friday to Appalachian State, 63-58, when the Thundering Herd made only 24 percent of its shots.
Obviously, the first 40 minutes of the season didn't go as Marshall envisioned.
"We have to make this 40 minutes turn out the way we want them to," Chadwick said.
The poor shooting Friday was catastrophic, Chadwick said.
Appalachian State tried to help Marshall with its 27 turnovers. The Herd also had 22 offensive rebounds, but put only three of them in the basket.
Forward Alyssa Hammond led Marshall's effort with 15 points. Rashedah Henriques scored 11.
