MU women play Jackson State
RICHMOND, Ky. -- Marshall University women's basketball meets Jackson State at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Comfort Suites Invitational at Eastern Kentucky University.
First-day matchups Friday in McBrayer Arena are Marshall (3-2) vs. Jackson State (1-4) and Presbyterian (4-3) against host Eastern Kentucky (3-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday games are a 2 and 4:30 p.m.
Marshall is led by sophomore guard Shay Weaver averaging 10.6 points per game.
The Thundering Herd has seven players scoring at least six per game topped by 6-3 sophomore Chukwuka Ezeigbo (8.0), 5-7 junior Orlandria Wiilliams (8.0) and 5-5 freshman point guard Norrisha Victrum (7.6).
Ezeigbo is the Herd's leading rebounder with 7.0 a game.
Jackson State from the Southwestern Athletic Conference has beaten Houston Baptist while losing to Arkansas, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas and Navy.
Tiffany Kellum, a 6-2 senior, leads the Tigers with 10.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.
Eastern Kentucky senior forward Jade Barber recorded her third double-double performance of the season Wednesday with 11 points and 10 rebounds in a 76-42 defeat at Louisville.
Barber averages 13.0 points and 11.2 rebounds while 5-11 senior Brittany Coles adds 10.3 points and 5.7 rebounds. Colonels point guard Marie Carpenter, a preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference selection, scored 27 in the season opener against Miami (Ohio), but broke her hand late in the game and hasn't played since.
Presbyterian opened its Big South Conference schedule Wednesday with a 58-57 win over Charleston Southern. Junior guard Karlee Turner averages 10.7 points for the Blue Hose.
