Tulsa eliminates Marshall tennis team
HOUSTON -- Second-seeded Tulsa advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship tournament Friday with a 4-0 defeat of No. 7 Marshall University on the John E. Hoff Tennis Courts.
Tulsa, 18-5 and No. 24 in the ITA rankings, claimed the doubles point to take the lead.
Isaura Enrique and Samantha Vickers of the Golden Hurricane edged Dominika Zaprazna and Kara Kucin, 9-7. Maria Sant'Anna and Renata Kuricova slipped past Karlyn Timko and Dana Oppinger, 9-8 (9-7).
Tulsa closed out the match with three straight-set singles victories.
Kuricova defeated Timko, 6-0, 6-0; Vickers beat Zaprazna, 6-2, 6-0; and Sant'Anna downed Kucin, 6-0, 6-3.
Tulsa plays No. 3 seed Memphis while top-seeded Rice and No. 5 SMU meet in Saturday's semifinal matches.
Marshall ended its season with a 13-11 record.
