Simsiriwong is named C-USA Golfer of Week
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall junior Korakot Simsiriwong has been named Conference USA Golfer of the Week after an outstanding performance in the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational Sept. 9-10.
Simsiriwong is the first C-USA women's Golfer of the Week this season. It's the second time she's won the honor in her Thundering Herd career. She was honored last season (Sept. 26, 2012) after winning the Cardinal Classic title in Yorktown, Ind., in a playoff.
"I'm really excited for her and the way that she played," Marshall coach Meredith Knight Rowsey said. "She's had the chances before, but has fallen short, never having an under-par round in the final round."
Simsiriwong had a large part in the Herd's jump from ninth place to fifth over the two days and three rounds of the Murray State Drake Creek Invitational in Ledbetter, Ky. In Round 1, she shot a two-over-par 74, followed with a 71 (-1), and topped her individual finish with a 70 (-2).
"Going into this tournament, I knew exactly what I needed to do to play well, and I had my mind set on my goals," Simsiriwong said. "I am absolutely honored to be named C-USA Golfer of the Week. I know that I could not do this without the support of my team, family, friends and Marshall fans."
The Herd's next event on the fall schedule is Sept. 16-17 at the Cardinal Cup in Simpsonville, Ky., hosted by Louisville.
