Marshall swim team competes at IUPUI

INDIANAPOLIS -- Marshall University defeated Western Illinois while losing to St. Louis and host IUPUI in a women's swimming and diving quad meet Saturday in the IUPUI Natatorium.

Sarah Kay from Marshall won the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.40) and Danica Ross won the 50 freestyle (24.32). Ross also won the 100 freestyle (53.47).

Madison Lawhorn was first in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.53). Kacey Preun placed first in the 1,650 freestyle (17:38).

Marshall defeated IUPUI and Xavier while losing to Ball State in a Friday quad meet.

Kay led the Thundering Herd with victories in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.93) and the 400 IM (4:36.56).

Ross won the 50 freestyle (24.10). The freshman's time was seventh-fastest in school history.

TRACK AND FIELD

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Jasia Richardson from Marshall won the triple jump Saturday at the Kentucky Invitational in E.J. Nutter Field House.

Richardson by more than three inches with a leap of 40-feet, 10.25 inches.

Crystal Walker from Marshall placed sixth Friday in the long jump. Walker had a jump of 19-feet.
