Herd's Valle wins preseason honor

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University third baseman Jazmine Valle was named as a member of the All-Conference USA preseason softball team.

Marshall was picked to finish fifth in the conference race by C-USA head coaches.

Valle, a senior from Lake Elsinore, Calif., was an All-CUSA second team selection in 2012. She batted .280 last season with 10 home runs and 44 runs batted in.

Marshall had a 36-21 record last season and finished third in the conference regular season at 15-9 before advancing the the C-USA tournament finals.

The Thundering Herd opens the season Feb. 8 at the USF-Demarini Tournament in Tampa, Fla.
