HUNTINGTON -- After graduating from Marshall University in December, football player C.J. Crawford will continue his career for the Charlotte 49ers.

Crawford, a Huntington native, is listed on the Charlotte roster for the 2013 season as a graduate student.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Huntington High graduate was redshirted at Marshall in 2009 and played three seasons for the Thundering Herd. He appeared in all 12 games of the 2012 season as a redshirt junior tight end who caught 11 passes for 107 yards.

He is listed as an H-Back for the 49ers.

"C.J. plays the H-Back spot and we think we can move him around," Charlotte head coach Brad Lambert said on Crawford's bio page at www.charlotte49ers.com. "We can use him as a wideout, a tight end, a back. He's athletic and can stretch the field for us and he brings a lot of versatility to our offense."

Charlotte begins playing football as an FCS independent in 2013 and 2014 before moving into the FBS ranks as a member of Conference USA.

The 49ers join C-USA for all sports in 2013 and begin football competition in 2015.
