Shaq signs to play in Canada
HUNTINGTON -- Shaq Johnson from the Marshall Thundering Herd men's basketball team signed with a Canadian professional team.
Johnson is joining Laval Kebs, a Montreal team in the National Basketball League of Canada.
"I'm very excited to start playing again," Johnson said. "It's a good opportunity to get paid to do something I love. It's a very good league to start at and get some stats and just build from there."
Johnson leaves for training camp Oct. 14. Laval Kebs plays its first game Nov. 3.
NBL players sign one-year contracts that can be renewed at the end.
Johnson averaged 9.2 points last season for Marshall and finished his career with more game appearances (134) than any player in Marshall school history.
He was 11th on the Marshall all-time list for assists (300), 11th in steals (125), 13th in free throws (322), 18rh in 3-point field goals (104) and 27th in points (1,240).
