MU puts two on preseason all-league team
HUNTINGTON -- Dre Kane and Dennis Tinnon represent Marshall University on the Preseason All-Conference USA men's basketball team.
C-USA head coaches picked Kane for the all-conference first team and placed Tinnon on the second team.
Kane averaged 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds last season as an all-conference second team selection. He scored 40 in a conference tournament triple-overtime defeat of Tulsa.
The 6-foot-4 junior guard from Pittsburgh, Pa., has 1,073 career points.
Tinnon, a 6-8 senior from Green Bay, Wisc., averaged 10.2 points and 10.0 rebounds as one of just 21 players in the nation last season who averaged a double-double. The C-USA All-Defensive Team member was 22nd nationally in rebound average.
Kane and Tinnon were named to the 2012 C-USA all-tournament team when sixth-seeded Marshall rolled past SMU, Tulsa and Southern Miss before losing to Memphis in the championship game.
Marshall finished the season with a 21-14 record, tied for fifth place in C-USA at 9-7 and received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament. Practice for the 2012-13 season begins Friday, Oct. 12, with Thundering Herd Madness in Cam Henderson Center.
UCF senior forward Keith Clanton was chosen as the preseason conference player of the year.
Joining Kane and Clanton on the first team were East Carolina senior guard Miguel Paul, Memphis junior forward Tarik Black and Tulane sophomore guard Ricky Tarrant.
The second team included Tinnon, Memphis junior guards Chris Crawford and Joe Jackson, Memphis sophomore forward Adonis Thomas and Southern Miss junior guard Neil Watson.
