Marshall tennis team set for season opener

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall Thundering Herd women's tennis opens the spring season Friday with two matches.

Eastern Michigan visits Marshall for a 10 a.m. match in the Huntington Tennis Club adjacent to the Huntington Mall at Melody T Farm. Marshall then goes to Morehead State for a 5 p.m. match on the Eagle Center indoor courts.

Marshall returns nine players from last season's team which finished with a 13-10 record and was ranked for much of the season ranked in the top 75 nationally.

Dominika Zaprazna returns for her senior season after being named to the All-Conference USA first team. Zaprazna was ranked as high as No. 35 in the nation last season with partner Maria Voscekova in doubles. The duo, both from Bratislava, Slovakia, finished 15-4 at the No. 1 doubles position.

Zaprazna also played No. 1 singles last season and finished 10-8 while Voscekova, a junior, finished with a 13-6 record at No. 2 singles.

Also returning are sophomores Ellie Ball and Kai Broomfield; juniors Kelsi Halbert, Lexy Kessel, Wittlee Retton and Karlyn Timko; and senior Kara Kucin.

The lone newcomer is freshman Dana Oppinger from Weingarten, Germany.
