Marshall swimmer ties school record
HOUSTON -- Marshall's Danica Ross tied a school record she equaled only hours earlier, taking sixth in the finals of the 50 Freestyle to lead the Herd in the evening session on the second day of competition of the 2013 Swimming/Diving Championships at the University of Houston Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium.
The Herd currently sits in sixth place with 114 points.
Ross once again swam the event in a time of 23.37 seconds and finished just .13 seconds out of fourth place.
Also competing in Thursday's finals was 3-meter diver Lauren Rone, who took sixth with a score of 236.70.
Kacey Preun and Kaley Gregory swam the finals of the 500 Free and finished 10th (4:53.68) and 16th (4:59.01), respectively. Preun's time was nearly 4 1/2 seconds faster than her prelim mark of 4:58.12.
The Friday morning session begins at 10 a.m. CT and will feature preliminary action in the 400 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and 1-meter diving competition. The evening session will begin at 6 p.m. CT and will comprise the finals of all these events, in addition to the 400 Medley Relay.
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- North Carolina A&T battered five Marshall pitchers for 14 hits Friday in a 10-7 baseball victory at War Memorial Stadium.
Marshall (1-2) scored three in the first inning, and the lead didn't hold. Nathan Gomez had a sacrifice bunt and Alfredo Brito's single to center field knocked in two runs.
The Aggies (3-2) scored twice each in the second, fourth, fifth, sixth and sevenh innings.
North Carolina A&T's Luke Tendler had three hits with two doubles and three RBIs. Dairo Little also had three hits while driving in two.
Chase Vogelbach had three hits for Marshall and Eric Escobedo added two.
Aggies' starting pitcher Josh Ganus gut the win. Marshall reliever Ryan Hopkins took the loss.
The teams play again at 1 p.m., Friday.
