C-USA softball tourney starts Thursday
HUNTINGTON -- UAB, Houston and Tulsa earned the top three seeds for the Conference USA softball championship tournament.
The single-elimination tournament begins Thursday at the Collins FamilySoftball Complex in Tulsa, Okla.
UAB (36-15) finished first in the conference regular season with a 19-4 record.
Houston (37-17) and No. 25 Tulsa (41-13-1) both finished 19-5 in the conference. Houston is the No. 2 seed by virtue of its regular season series win against third-seeded Tulsa.
Marshall (32-20) had a 13-10 league record and is seeded fourth. The Thundering Herd plays No. 5 East Carolina (21-30) that had finished 11-12 in C-USA.
No. 6 seed UCF (29-24, 10-14), No. 7 Memphis (24-35, 8-16) and No. 8 Southern Miss (14-40, 4-18) complete the tournament field.
Ninth-place UTEP (13-35, 2-21) didn't qualify.
The champion receives an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
