Herd tennis signs recruit
HUNTINGTON -- Kara Kucin of Belleair, Fla., a women's tennis player rated as the No. 87 prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network, signed to play at Marshall.
Kucin is a right-hander from Clearwater Central Catholic High School.
"Kara is a tremendous athlete who has had success in the junior nationals," Marshall head coach John Mercer said. "We feel she will be an asset to our program."
Kucin has a 53-31 high school career record and was a district champion in 2007 and 2008. She was named as the St. Petersburg Times newspaper player of the year in 2007.
She was also recruited by New Mexico, Maryland, Florida State, UNC Greensboro and UCF.
"We are very excited she chose Marshall," Mercer said.
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall concludes the Conference USA volleyball regular season with a 1 p.m. Saturday match against East Carolina in Cam Henderson Center.
Admission is free.
East Carolina (13-17, 3-12) defeated Marshall, 3-1, on Sept. 19.
Jalicia Ross for Marshall (11-14, 4-11) is ranked fifth in the nation with a .425 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Fleming is fourth in the conference with 10.63 assists per set. Emily Sullivan ranks in the top 15 of the conferencw with 2.87 kills per set.
Marshall begins C-USA tournament play Thursday in Memphis, Tenn.
