Herd baseball team faces Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Thundering Herd baseball team will travel to Columbus, Ohio to square off against Ohio State, Wednesday, May 7. Game-time is set for 6:35 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium.

Marshall enters the contest with an overall record of 24-24-1 and has won 10 of its last 15 games, while Ohio State stands at 24-21 on the season.

The Herd is coming off a 1-2 performance against No. 28 Southern Miss this past weekend. Steve Blevins (7-2) picked up the win in game one against the Golden Eagles. The junior's seventh win marks the first time a Marshall pitcher has posted seven wins in a single season since Sean Reeder did so during the 2000 season.

Overall, Marshall is led offensively by Victor Gomez who has a .385 batting average with 65 hits, nine doubles, nine home runs and 38 RBIs. Nate Lape is right behind him with a .383 batting average, 67 hits, 15 doubles and 14 home runs in addition to 51 runs driven in.

Leading into Wednesday's contest, Ohio State leads the all-time series 15-0, and took a 10-7 decision in the last meeting between the teams in 2000.

The Buckeyes are led offensively by Justin Miller who has a .377 batting average with 12 doubles, 42 RBIs and a .474 slugging percentage.

J.B. Shuck has posed as a double-threat for Ohio State. He has a .400 batting average with 54 hits, four doubles and a triple, while adding 18 steals (in 21 attempts). He also has a 4.42 ERA on the hill.

The Herd will throw Ian Kadish (1-1) in Wednesday's contest against the Buckeyes.

The freshman has a 4.26 ERA in 20 appearances (four starts) on the season. He has also issued 18 strikeouts in 31.2 innings pitched.
