Marshall roundup: Sullivan, Herman each record 16 kills in 3-0 win

HUNTINGTON -- Emily Sullivan and Elizabeth Herman both recorded 16 kills Friday night for Marshall in a 3-0 volleyball victory over the UAB Blazers in Cam Henderson Center.

Marshall improved to 20-7 for the season and 8-5 in Conference USA entering a 1 p.m. Sunday match against Memphis. UAB is 14-15 overall and 6-7 in the conference.

Kristin Marcum of the Thundering Herd posted a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs.

Elizabeth Fleming had 45 assists while Ryanne Milligan had 14 digs.

TENNIS

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Michaela Kissell and Dominika Zaprazna from Marshall suffered their first women's tennis doubles loss of the fall Friday in the quarterfinals of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.

Andrea Remynse and Yasmin Schnack from UCLA, ranked fourth in the nation, beat the Marshall duo, 8-4.

Marshall will be idle until the spring season begins in January.

MEN'S SOCCER

HUNTINGTON -- Marshall and UAB play a 7 p.m., Saturday, men's soccer match on Sam Hood Field. Admission is free.

Marshall (9-6-1 season, 5-2-0 conference) could earn the right to host the Conference USA tournament next week if Tulsa either loses or ties in its match at UCF. UAB is 12-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the conference.

It's Senior Night for Thundering Herd players Michael Bolt, Dustin Dawes, Matt Dickerson, J.D. Kepler and Greg Walter in their final regular season match.

VOLLEYBALL

HUNTINGTON -- Thundering Herd setter Elizabeth Fleming was named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic District II first team.

Fleming, a junior from South Bend, Ind., has a 4.0 GPA and is an international affairs major.

SWIMMING

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Marshall swimmers and divers have a 2 p.m. Saturday meet at Youngstown State in Beeghly Natatorium. Marshall has a 1-4 record while the Penguins are 0-2.
