MU names Long women's soccer coach
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall University named Kevin Long as interim head coach of the Thundering Herd women's soccer team.
Long joined the Marshall staff as an assistant coach in May. He joined the Herd after five seasons as the head coach at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J. He had a 37-48-12 record at Rider, a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
Marshall head coach Chris Kane resigned after going 16-68-6 in five seasons. Kane's teams were 4-45-2 in conference matches.
"I wish Chris (Kane) and his family the best in their new endeavor," Long said. "I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to lead the Thundering Herd women's soccer program. The fact that I came in earlier as an assistant coach will be very beneficial in the transition."
Long is also a former head coach at Randolph-Macon College. He also worked at N.C. State as an assistant coach.
He is a George Mason University graduate (1983).
Long and his wife, Shelly, have three daughters, Austyn, Alyssa and Abigail.
