Thunder 10s places 5th out of 60 in AAU National Championship
ORLANDO, Fla. -- The West Virginia Thunder 10s finished 5th out of 60 teams in the Division 1 AAU Girls Basketball National Championship this week.
The team finished 7-2 overall after starting pool play 3-0 following wins over the Nashville Players (63-26), the Florida Vision (49-22) and the Georgia Lady Stars (45-42).
In the championship bracket, the Thunder put in its best defensive game of the week, defeating the Missouri Magic 35-13. That win was followed by a 44-39 victory over the Birmingham Bullets.
The Carolina All-Stars tripped up the Thunder 44-30, sending the team into the loser's bracket where they defeated the Georgia Celtics 40-39 and the Mid-Atlantic Comets 40-28 before losing to Indiana's Finest 35-33.
Members of the team include Leanna Adkins, Courtney Blanton, Whitney Brand, Lauren Cannatelli, Lexi Doddridge, Logan Fraley, Abby Haislop, Rachel Lee and Kelsey Stumbo.
Coaches of the WV Thunder are Shannon Lewis, Stan Doddridge, Pete Fraley and Scott Cannatelli.
