The Cabell County Board of Education voted this afternoon to offer Marshall University $1.8 million for the University Heights Apartments property. The vote came hours after a public hearing held in the Alumni Lounge in the Memorial Student Center, where Superintendent William Smith, Prestera Center executive director Bob Hansen and many Prestera clients and supporters spoke.

Valleyball tournament starts today

SPRING VALLEY -- Valley Ball 3-On-3 Basketball tournament action begins today at RPA Memorial Park on Spring Valley Drive.

The 22nd Valley Ball tournament features 28 teams playing in A and B divisions.

Games are played on an outdoor court that is about half as long as regulation. The rims hang less than the regulation 10-feet at 9 feet, 6 inches.

It is considered one of a few full-court, 3-on-3 tournaments in the nation.

Today's schedule begins at 2 p.m. and continues into the evening.

Saturday and Sunday games get going at 9 a.m. The Sunday championships are set for about 4 p.m.

Finish LIne at the Huntington Mall is putting up a $150 first prize for the Saturday afternoon slam dunk contest beginning at about 4:30 p.m. The 3-Point Shootout follows the dunkers.

RPA Memorial Park has some bleacher seating, but many spectators line the court sitting in lawn chairs.

Concessions are available.
