Ona/Hite-Saunders loses regional game

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Ona/Hite-Saunders slipped to a 1-1 pool record Friday with a loss in the Little League Softball (age 11-12) All-Star Southeastern Regional Tournament.

McLean (Va.) defeated Ona/Hite-Saunders, 7-0, at Southeast Park.

Gabi Norton pitched a one-hitter for the Virginia champions. Norton walked four and recorded four strikeouts.

Gracen Govan went 3-for-4 to lead McLean’s nine-hit attack. Norton was 2-for-4.

Govan knocked in two runs with a double in the second inning.

The Virginia team scored three runs in the fourth inning  on Govan’s RBI single and Norton’s two-RBI single. Govan finished with three RBIs and Norton had two. Kate Haas also drove in one run.
Rianna Kingery had the only hit for Ona/Hite-Saunders.

Charlee Mullins started in the pitching circle for the West Virginia champions and went three innings. Mullins was touched for four hits and three runs. Kira Lane and Rianna Kingery pitched in relief.

Ona/Hite-Saunders completes its pool games Saturday at 1 p.m. against Morristown (Tenn.), which beat McLean on Thursday, 6-3.

Consolation and semifinal games are Sunday, followed by the championship Monday.

The regional champion earns a World Series berth, Aug. 8-14, in Portland, Ore.
