Ron Mays Jr. wins Combo-Games title
HUNTINGTON -- On a day of high scores, Ron Mays Jr. converted consistency, a perfect game and 10-pin handicap into victory in the Combo-Games Handicap Singles Tournament on Sunday at Colonial Lanes.
Mays posted a 1,307 to finish more than 100 pins up on runner-up Jason Skeens and get the first automatic invitation to the Tournament of Champions in December.
Skeens finished with 1,205, followed by Dale Morrison, 1,199; Ian Russell, 1,198; and Brian Fite, 1,178.
Games one and five were regular scoring except the fifth was scratch. The second was no-tap, third a 3-6-9 and fourth the mulligan (change any frame you wish).
Mays, Morrison and Jeff Wiseman shot 300 in no-tap. Greg Nolan had 300 in the mulligan game.
Black Knights edge Milton in wrestling
POINT PLEASANT -- Point Pleasant finished first and Milton Middle came in second in the "Legends Duals" wrestling tournament held Saturday at Point Pleasant High School. The Black Knights had 142 points and the Panthers 135.
Point Pleasant had individual champions at 84 pounds, 95, 102 and 128.
Milton finished with six champions. They were Bobby Mitchell at 78, Tyler Hayes at 90, Jeremy Waugh at 116, Mark Armbrester at 123, Nick Boone at 145 and Tyler Hayes at 155. Getting seconds for the Panthers were Jordan Allen at 84, Josh Miller at 95, Mason White at 102 and Issac Gibson at 123.
Barboursville's champions were Lowell Farley at 171 and heavyweight Josh Baisden. Taking titles for Beverly Hills were Justin Arthur at 110 and Chris Brent at 135.
The tournament had 10 teams. They wrestled four matches and the top individuals from each pool wrestled for the championship. Second-place finishers from each pool competed for third-fourth.
Dean shoots a 299 in Eastern Heights League
HUNTINGTON -- Stacy Dean rolled a 299 game Monday night in the Eastern Heights Men's League at Strike Zone. The Huntington bowler left a 7 pin on his final shot.
