Webb's HRs lead Spring Valley win

SPRING VALLEY -- Colby Webb hit two home runs and finished with four RBIs to lead Spring Valley to an 8-1 win over visiting Woodrow Wilson in high school boys baseball on Tuesday night.

Evans launched a three-run home run to start the scoring in the first inning and give the Timberwolves all the run support they would need on the day.

He followed with a solo shot as part of a five-run fifth inning that sealed the victory for Spring Valley (2-3).

In addition to Evans, Colby Webb finished 2-for-4 while knocking in a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Alex Combs also collected a pair of hits.

Hunter Gipco finished 3-for-4 with a double for Woodrow Wilson (0-3).

Spring Valley travels to Cabell Midland for a 5 p.m. baseball game on Wednesday. The game is a makeup from Monday's rainout.

PORTSMOUTH 7, FAIRLAND 2: Seven errors by the Fairland Dragons were a deciding factor as the Portsmouth Trojans came away with a road win, 7-2, Tuesday evening.

The game remained tied at two until Portsmouth managed three runs in the top of the sixth inning and two more in the seventh.

The Dragons fall to 1-1 on the season, while Portsmouth improves to 2-1.

Next for the St. Joe Irish is a 5 p.m., Thursday, game against South Point at the Huntington YMCA Kennedy Center.

LINCOLN COUNTY 9, PARKERSBURG SOUTH 0: Lincoln County inflicted the mercy rule against Parkersburg South in softball, winning 9-0 in six innings.

Faith Huffman went the distance on the mound for the Panthers, allowing only two hits and striking out eight.

At the plate for Lincoln County (9-2), Megan Tully went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs while Faith Huffman went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Hannah Wilson had both hits for Parkersburg South.

The Dragons (0-2), were led by Chandler Fulks on the mound, who struck out five over the course of the game.

Fairland plays at Coal Grove Wednesday.
