Marshall's Der makes preseason All-CUSA team
HUNTINGTON -- Marshall's Thundering Herd is represented by Laura Der on the preseason All-Conference USA volleyball team.
Also, Marshall was picked to finish eighth in the 15-team conference race.
Der is a 5-foot-9 senior outside hitter from Clarksville, Ind.
She was part of the 2012 All-CUSA team, was an All-Midwest Region honorable mention selection and made the C-USA All-Academic team.
Her 4.39 kills per set and 4.96 points per set ranked in the NCAA top 25.
Rice was tabbed as the preseason conference favorite with the Owls, Tulsa, UTSA, North Texas and Middle Tennessee all receiving first-place votes.
Three-time defending C-USA regular season champion Tulsa and UTSA tied for second place in the poll. North Texas was fourth followed by UTEP, Middle Tennessee, UAB and Marshall.
Marshall had an 18-13 record last season and finished 8-8 in the conference. The Herd opens the season Aug. 30-31 with three matches at Virginia's Jefferson Cup in Charlottesville, Va.
UTSA senior McKenzie Adams, a 6-3 outside hitter, was selected as the conference preseason player of the year. Adams was last season's Western Athletic Conference player of the year and an All-American honorable mention pick.
