Bernard Morris back in football

December 17, 2008 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- Bernard Morris, a former Marshall University quarterback out of football since ending his Thundering Herd career in 2007, is getting a chance to play in the arenafootball2 league.

Arenafootball2 (af2) is the official development league of the Arena Football League (AFL), which announced Monday its 2009 season is canceled as it seeks to mold a better business model through tough economic times. League officials hope to return in 2010.

Officials for the development league said it will play in 2009. The af2 operates entirely on its own and is not directly affected by the AFL's situation.

Morris was assigned to the Arkansas Twisters by the af2 league office along with former Florida State quarterback Xavier Lee.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Morris was a three-season starter at Marshall. He passed for 5,616 yards and 31 touchdowns in his career. He also became the first Herd quarterback to rush for more than 1,000 yards (1,089).

Lee played for Florida State in 2006 and 2007. He passed up his senior season for the NFL Draft and had a brief stay with the Baltimore Ravens in 2008 as an undrafted free agent.

Morris and Lee are both passers and runners, which is a good combination for the indoor game.
