Huntington's Fox tied for 13th in New Jersey

WEST CALDWELL, N.J. -- Steve Fox of Huntington is tied for 13th after the first round of qualifying in the 2012 U.S. Senior Amateur being played on the par-71 Mountain Ridge Country Club.

The current West Virginia Senior Amateur champion shot an even-par 71 Saturday. He is one of six players at that score. He had four birdies and four bogeys in the round.

Stan Kinsey of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., fired a 5-under 66 to take the first-day lead. Kinsey, who carded six birdies and one bogey, shot the lowest stroke-play round since 2007 and matched the second-best 18-hole score in championship history.

The final round of qualifying is Sunday. The top 64 players advance to match play. There will be six rounds of match play with the 18-hole final on Thursday.
