Midland holds on to No. 1 ranking

HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Midland holds the Class AAA No. 1 state football rating again this week.

No. 25 Winfield (2-4) visits the Knights (6-0) on Friday. No. 4 Huntington High (4-1) comes off an open date with a Friday visit to No. 11 Woodrow Wilson (4-2).

Point Pleasant, No. 8 at 4-1, has a big contest Friday at No. 10 Oak Hill (4-1). No. 13 Spring Valley (3-2) faces a tough test at No. 5 George Washington (4-1). No. 14 Hurricane (3-2) is at home Friday to face No. 21 Ripley (3-3). Winless Lincoln County (0-5) is at No. 20 South Charleston (3-3).

A lot of attention will be focused on Madison, W.Va., for a Friday matchup in Class AA between No. 3 Wayne (5-0) and No. 1 Scott (6-0).

Another Class AA game of interest is No. 16 Tolsia (3-3) at No. 11 Mingo Central (3-2).

Class AA No. 27 Poa (2-4) travels to play No. 14 Webster County (3-3).

Wahama, No. 4 in Class A, carries a 6-0 record into a road game against Ohio foe Federal Hocking (5-1).

One of Friday's big games in Class A is No. 18 Wirt County (4-1) at No. 12 Buffalo (4-1).

Ohio Valley Conference games Friday include the annual rivalry clash of Fairland (3-3) at Chesapeake (2-4) while River Valley (1-5) visits Coal Grove (2-3) and Rock Hill (0-6) plays at South Point (0-6).

Symmes Valley (5-1) continues to look toward the Ohio Division VI, Region 23 playoffs with a game at Sciotoville Community (3-3).

Ironton (5-1) slipped to No. 2 in Division IV, Region 15 after losing at Johnson Central, Ky., with a home game against Columbus Bishop Watterson (3-3).

Kentucky Class 1A Fairview, ranked No. 3 at 6-0, has a Thursday game at Paintsville (1-5). Class 3A Belfry (5-1) is at Class 4A Ashland (6-1).
