Foundation issues 100-hole golf challenge

September 04, 2010 @ 09:00 PM

HUNTINGTON -- The Foundation on the Fairways golf tournament will be held Sept. 20 at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club in Hurricane.

The format for 2010 has changed drastically. Instead of 30 teams playing in a scramble, tournament officials are looking for no more than 40 individuals who are willing to play the 100-Hole Challenge. Each of the golfers will play 100 holes in one day to help further the education of many and make an impact on health and wellness in the region.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to support Healthy HEART U, a childhood obesity program at St. Mary's Medical Center, and athletic scholarships for Marshall University's Big Green Scholarship Foundation.

Golfers will have their own carts and play in pairs. Each golfer is asked to pledge a minimum of $10 per hole. This can be done by corporate or the individual. Sponsorship opportunities are available.

There will be breakfast prior to the round, lunch on the course and a cookout dinner after play ends. Organizations and/or individuals will receive a complimentary round of golf for four at select courses. The courses are Old White and Greenbrier at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs, Palmer Course at Stonewall Jackson Resort and Sleepy Hollow Golf Club.
