Barboursville all-stars crush Beckley, 12-1
SOUTH CHARLESTON -- Barboursville rode the strength of three home runs to a 12-1 win over Beckley on Sunday in pool play in the West Virginia State Little League 11-12 Tournament at Little Creek Park.
Griffin Adkins, Peyton Weekly and Ivan Vaughn each belted a homer to power the District 1 champions in their opener. Weekly and Vaughn each knocked in three runs and Adkins drove in two. Jason Perdue also drove in a pair for Barboursville.
Hogan Carter went the distance to get the win for Barboursville. He allowed four hits. Shawn Blevins had two, a home run and double.
Pool play continues Monday and Tuesday for the 14 teams. Pool winners move on to single-elimination games starting Wednesday. The championship game is set for Friday at 6 p.m.
There is no admission charge.
Barboursville is in Pool C and its next game is 4 p.m. Monday against Shady Spring on Field B. The finale is 5 p.m. Tuesday against Martinsburg on Field A.
Huntington League 3, the District 1 runner-up, is in Pool D and begins play at 8 p.m. Monday against Madison on Field B. League 3's second game is Tuesday at 8 p.m. against Fairmont on Field B.
The tournament champion advances to the Southeast Regional Tournament scheduled Aug. 2-9 in Warner Robins, Ga.
