Spring Valley track star qualifies for Young Women's 800-meter run
HUNTINGTON -- Savannah Rutherford from Spring Valley High School qualified for the Young Women's (age 17-18) 800-meter run finals today at the USATF Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Rutherford, representing the Tri-State Athletic Club, finished third in her heat with the fourth-fastest qualifying time of 2 minutes, 18.53 seconds.
She placed sixth in 2008 in the Intermediate Girls (age 15-16) division.
Daniel Brown from Huntington High competed in the preliminaries of the Young Men's 200-meter race.
Rutherford also ran Friday in the 400-meter preliminaries while Brown was in the 100-meter heats.
Tri-State Athletic Club All-Comers series of summer meets begin Tuesday at Spring Valley. The meet starts at 6:30 p.m. and has a $5 entry fee.
