Crash must win to stay in playoff contention
KENOVA -- The path to the United States Football Alliance playoffs is clear for the Ceredo-Kenova Crash. Win out or stay home.
The Crash hope to take the first step Saturday when they meet the West Virginia Gladiators at 7 p.m. at Ward-Craycraft Stadium. The game opens a three-game homestand.
In week two, the Gladiators beat the Crash, 41-15, in Morgantown.
"We must be focused. There is no room for errors," Crash head coach Jason Hunter said.
The Gladiators, coming off a 22-18 home loss last week to the New York Lionts, feature one of the league's best run defenses led by former WVU linebacker Alex Lake and Wayne State University standout Queintin DeShields.
The Crash (3-4) have one of the league's top passing attacks (286 yards per game) led by quarterback Justin Lunsford and receivers Sam Huff and Jermaine Payton. The Crash racked up 309 yards through the air last week in a 40-14 loss against the Cleveland Saints in Cleveland.
Greenbrier steakhouse named for Jerry West
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS -- Jerry West is lending his name and memorabilia to a new steakhouse at The Greenbrier Resort.
The NBA Hall of Famer and new resort owner Jim Justice announced the partnership Thursday.
Justice said he hopes the yet-unnamed steakhouse opens by Oct. 1 to coincide with the debut of a limited version of a planned underground casino.
West says he's working on a menu and wants to decorate the restaurant with old uniforms and other memorabilia.
Justice says the restaurant will be first class and a shrine to his friend.
West played at West Virginia University from 1956 to 1960 and spent his entire NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Justice bought the resort out of bankruptcy for $20.1 million in May.
