Spring Valley starts slow, still beats Winfield

Oct. 05, 2013 @ 01:45 AM

SPRING VALLEY — Spring Valley sputtered for one half Friday in its Homecoming football game before getting into gear.

The Timberwolves (4-2) put up three touchdowns in the third quarter to forge ahead in a 25-20 victory.

Spring Valley took the second half kickoff and marched right down the field before Dylan Lageman went into the end zone on a 4-yard run.

On the next Spring Valley possession Adam Page ran 53 yards for a score.

Following a short punt by Winfield, the Timberwolves scored again when Colby Webb caught a 31-yard TD pass from Tyler Brown.

Spring Valley, which trailed 14-6 at halftime, led 25-14 after three quarters.

Winfield (2-3) made it interesting by closing to within 25-20 early in the fourth quarter on a Toby Show 20-yard touchdown pass to Chris Turner.

Spring Valley lost a fumble on its next possession and Winfield had some late momentum, but the Timberwolves made a clutch defensive stop to stop the Generals.

The Timberwolves took the football again inside the final two minutes and ran out the clock.

Winfield jumped to a second-quarter lead with Turner’s 1-yard TD carry and Alex Amick took an 18-yard pass from Show in for another score before halftime..

Colby Webb put Spring Valley on the scoreboard with a 77-yard touchdown run.

Webb rushed nine times for 113 yards while Lageman had 13 carries for 59 yards.

Show led the Generals with 221 passing yards on 24 completions in 36 attempts.

Riverside visits Spring Valley next week and Nitro is at Winfield.
