Barboursville boys and girls top Cabell County middle school track

HUNTINGTON -- Kyler Burgess won four events and led Barboursville to the boys team title of the Cabell County Middle School track and field championship Monday on Ray McCoy Track at Huntington High.

Barboursville also claimed the girls team title.

Burgess was a quadruple winner in the 100 (11.89 seconds), 200 (24.40), 400 (54.44) and long jump (17-feet, 9 inches).

Kirk Jennings from Barboursville won the 800 (2:10.93) and high jump (5-6).

Milton distance runner Jonathan Hathaway was a double winner in the 1600 (4:56.28) and 3200 (10:36.97).

Ryan Mills from meet runner-up Beverly Hills was first in the shot put (45-5.50) and discus (119-1).

Dewey Brown of Huntington Middle won the 200 hurdles (27.89) and ran a leg on the winning 4x100 relay (49.21) that included Chris Rogers, Josh Eastman and Keandre Bryant.

Beverly Hills hurdler Dezmon Bradshaw was first in the 75-meter event (11.86).

Barboursville added to its point total with wins in the 4x200 and 4x800 relays. The 4x200 relay of Alex Houck, Jayce Gould, Brian Mount and Devin Nease had a time of 1:53.88. In the 4x800 relay it was Chad Heiner, David Ball, Andrew Lester and Owen Huffman with a time of 10:12.01.

Beverly Hills had a 4x400 relay victory from Jake Gooderham, Andrew Spears, Cody Daniels and Malik Grier (4:12.13) and in the 4x60 shuttle hurdle relay by Jonathan Leep, Warren Maynard, Brad Lewis and Cordell Pitts (42.46).


Barboursville dominated the girls field events with victories by Kelsie Taylor in the high jump (4-6), Emily Smith in the long jump (14-6.50) and Kylie Miles in the shot put (36-2.50).

Ripley Haney gave Barboursville another win in the 75 hurdles (13.51).

The girls champions also won the 4x200 relay with Adria Fox, Morgan Bennett, Sierra Hicks and Smith (2:00.55) and the 4x400 relay with Rachel King, Alaina Mills, Kathryn Jennings and Lindsey Cummings (4:38.48).

Julia Bolling from girls team runner-up Huntington was first in the 100 (13.72) and 200 (28.87).

Other wins for Huntington were by Kearsta Turner in the 400 (1:04.56), Mariah Harmon in the 200 hurdles (32.15) and the 4x60 shuttle hurdle relay team of Kirsten Ketchum, Ciarra Brown, Camryn Michallas and Harmon (43.67).

Milton had individual event victories from Kaylee Johnson in the 800 (2:35.05), Katie Riedel in the 1600 (5:53.96) and Allison Short in the 3200 (12:54.62). Milton also won the 4x100 relay with Bailey Joseph, Jessica Smith, Caroline Kinder and Kirya Kingery (58.94) and the 4x800 relay with Short, Anya Miller, Riedel and Johnson (11:15.56).

Caitlin Wheeler from Beverly Hills won the discus (70-11).
