Hively, Valle homer for Herd to beat Morehead
MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Alysia Hively and Jazmine Valle home runs led the Marshall University softball team past Morehead State, 5-1, in a Wednesday game at University Field.
Marshall pitcher Andi Williamson tossed a seven-hitter.
Hively led off the second inning with a solo homer, her ninth of the season.
The Thundering Herd (30-19) scored three times in the third inning. Kaelynn Greene had a leadoff single, stole second and took third base on a throwing error. Ashley Gue also singled before Valle smacked a three-run homer.
Williamson (27-13) struck out six and walked three.
Morehead State (24-21) scored in the sixth inning. Amber Riddle walked and pinch-runner Samantha Howard scored on Stephanie Etter's triple.
Katie Pfost (15-11) also pitched a complete game for the Eagles.
Marshall gets back to Conference USA play with a weekend series against UTEP at Dot Hicks Field.
