Free agent Jennings signs with Browns

HUNTINGTON -- Chris Jennings, who grew up in Huntington and played football at Fairview High School in Ashland, signed a National Football League free agent contract Tuesday with the Cleveland Browns.

Jennings, a running back, originally signed as an undrafted free agent with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 2008, Jennings was waived on June 21, 2008 and resigned with the team following the 2008 season.

In two seasons at the University of Arizona (2006-07), Jennings rushed for 607 yards on 158 carries and four touchdowns, while notching 34 receptions for 262 receiving yards with one touchdown.

He also attended Arizona Western University in 2005, where he rushed for 488 yards.

Hurricane captures Capital Classic title

TORNADO, W.Va. -- Hurricane made it 3-for-3 with its victory in the Capital City Classic at Big Bend Golf Club.

The Redskins, who have won two straight West Virginia Class AAA championships, posted a 213 to win the Capital title by seven shots over Cabell Midland. The tournament is the third in the Top Flite Junior Tour's High School Series and Hurricane has won all three.

Hurricane's Sam Booth fired a 3-under-par 68 to lead the field. Brian Anania added 72 and Aaron Barna 73. Format was four players with low three counting.

Brooke Bellomy shot 71 and Tyler Clay a 72 to lead Cabell Midland (220). George Washington was third (221).

Many of the teams competing Tuesday will be at Esquire Country Club on Saturday for the Huntington Invitational.
