More than 200 runners help battle Huntington drug woes

March 29, 2009 @ 12:00 AM

HUNTINGTON -- More than 200 runners took to Pullman Square on Saturday morning for the Adam Johnson 3 Mile Run.

Huntington's Jason Pyles ran away from the competition and finished in a time of 15:09, which was 1:12 faster than second-place finisher Robert Smith.

Overall, there were 211 entrants ranging from the ages of 7 to 83 running for a common cause. The race might have been a competition, but all participants were winners on this day as they helped in Huntington's fight against heroin.

Proceeds from the event will go to a scholarship at Marshall University in memory of Adam Johnson, who passed away in 2007. His father Teddy organized the event.

Some of the proceeds will also go toward a donation to the Huntington Police Department.

The first 200 runners received T-shirts and awards were distributed following the race.
